WHY LIST'EM
-----------
List'Em was written because of the same problems that everyone
has with their favorite files list creator. Either it isn't
fully configurable, or the configured output does not offer any
fancy graphic headers, title bars, or footers.
Some of the important features of List'Em are:
----------------------------------------------
* Directly supports RemoteAccess's FILES.RA file
* Allows optional Header and Footer text files per config.
* List'Em will create FILES.BBS (or FILES.###) if it's not
found.
* Supports multiple configuration files with full file area
configuration. List only the areas you want in each list.
* Advanced FILES.BBS handling: optional sorting, descriptions,
and case of filenames. Additional options include deleting
FILES.BAK & missing files from FILES.BBS when done processing.
* Speed of List'Em: List'Em will process 150 files files in 20
seconds.
* Optional FILSEARCH.CTL conversion to FILES.RA included.
* File Statistics Chart option available, for the complete
processing of your files.
* Added features for registered users.
* Additional direct support of product thru the 'RODENT' echo.
The 'RODENT' echo is available in Zone 1 through the Fidonet
Backbone.
* Automatic ERRORS.LOG created if any problems should occur.
* Word-wrapping option available for better listing output of
longer descriptions on files. The maximum size of a listing
in FILES.BBS is 180 Characters.
NOTE: All listing and description that are maked with an "*"
have been improved or added to this version of List'Em.

ABOUT SHAREWARE
---------------
Well everyone says they will not try out a program that does not
let them test it first without delays. ShareWare means that you
have the right to test the product for a period of no more that
30 days. At the end of thirty (30) days you must either stop
using the product or register your copy. It's that simple, and
hopefully people will register! Registrations lead to more
programmers turning to the ShareWare concept.
┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ Registration Notice │
│ Unregistered Evaluation Version │
│ │
│ While this product is distributed freely, it is not free. It has been │
│ released under a software concept known as Shareware, which entitles │
│ you to evaluate this product free of charge for a maximum of 30 days. │
│ Afterwards, if you continue to use this software, you are required to │
│ register. │
│ │
│ Registration costs only 10$ in US funds, and entitles you to full │
│ support, notice of new releases, and removal of this screen. You will │
│ never have to re-register a later version of this program. │
│ │
│ For full registration details and special registration offers, please │
│ see the documentation accompanying this software, or File REQuest │

MONIES
------
There are currently two ways to register a program from Michael
Reece of RodentWare. One is a registration for the program
that you are currently using, List'Em. The second is to register
as a RodentWare 'supporter,' and obtain a registration (and
RODENT.KEY) for all current, and future, RodentWare programs.
LISTEM.DOC version 1.3 [Page 5]
KEYS
----
$ 10.00 will get you a LISTEM.KEY
for your product registration KEY.
$ 50.00 will get you a RODENT.KEY
for your RodentWare registration KEY.
LISTEM-C.EXE
------------
List'Em-C is the configuration program, and this is the most
important part of the List'Em process. Basicly, you can figure
out how to make List'Em work with out the documentation, but
there are a few added tips included. So lets just get started
with the config program.
The first step is to type LISTEM-C at the DOS prompt like below.
LISTEM-C.EXE will load and read your FILES.RA file to configure
your choices of file areas. If this is the first time you have
run LISTEM-C or you have moved or changed the name of LISTEM.CFG
you will be notified that List'Em is creating new configuration
file. To use a configuration file other than LISTEM.CFG, enter
the path and name on the command line.
C:\RA>LISTEM-C
- or -
C:\RA>LISTEM-C SUPPORT.CFG
LISTEM.CFG · add configuration description here

└──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
After the FILES.RA have been read and configured you are ready
to proceed forward. Next you are presented a window with your
choices to setup your configuration file. (Note all screen
captures that are show with-in this documentation package have
been stripped of the background colored windows. Also note
that the window shown maybe appear out of alignment from that
shown here.)

FILENAME SUB-MENU SECTION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OUTPUT FILE
-----------
This is the <filename> that you have chosen for your master file
list, or Output File, that will be created by List'Em.
HEADER FILE
-----------
This file is added into the master file list very similar to an
introduction of a paper. This file may contain information
about your BBS. You must create this file with your favorite
Editor. If desired, this file can be of ANSI nature.
FOOTER FILE
-----------
This file added to the end of the master file list as a closing
statement would finish the paper. This file may list other
miscellaneous information, such as file aliases supported for
file requests. This file is also created by you can be of ANSI
nature.
LOGFILE
-------
Here you select the log file to be used. If you are like I am,
you may want to have everything pointing to a single log file.
This will default to LISTEM.LOG if you don't change it.
LISTEM.DOC version 1.3 [Page 8]
LISTEM.DOC version 1.3 [Page 9]
NEW CHARACTER *
-------------
This option specifies what letter or symbol will be used to
indicate the newer files in your Output File. Use your arrow
keys or mouse to select the character you wish to use and press
INFO LINE
---------
The string in this position will be displayed on the screen
during List'Em runtime. It will also be placed at the top of
the Output File. This is basically a simple description or tag
line for your listing. You might call your Output File
'267_269.LST,' but that doesn't isn't very clear; so in this
that description will be displayed at run time and in the output
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These sub-menu options will help you create and maintain your
FILES.BBS for each directory.
ADD ORPHANS
-----------
Invoking this option will add all existing files not found

the directory, but are listed in the FILES.BBS.
SORT FILES.BBS
--------------
This option will sort the FILES.BBS list in alphabetical order

example, the first two files are sorted under the first comment.
A blank line separates the next three, which are in turn sorted.
After the final comment, the remaining files are sorted as well.

<Alt> & <Shift> at the same time to invoke this option. Type
'Exit' to return to List'Em-C.
LISTEM.DOC version 1.3 [Page 13]
LISTEM.EXE
----------
This is the main EXE program to run to create your master files
listing. Like LISTEM-C, there are two ways to invoke this
program.
The first is simple; type 'LISTEM' which will take the default
configuration file (LISTEM.CFG) and create the proper files
list.
The second option is probably the most important if you plan to
make special listings of specific areas, such as the included
example file, RODENT.LST. To use this feature, you must invoke
LISTEM.EXE with an optional command line variable specifying the
proper configuration file to use, such as "LISTEM RODENT.CFG".
LOG FILE
--------
List'Em now displays all the information about it's processing.
Example of what the log entry will look like is shown below. The
location of the output is controlled by your configuration, or
sent to 'LISTEM.LOG'.
